Profile – Matt Jagnow
Regional Director of Development, UTHSC
My position includes . . .
Fundraising for all colleges within UTHSC in a region that includes east Tennessee; South Carolina north to Maine, west to Wisconsin, and south through Kentucky.
To understand what I do, you must understand …
How to educate prospective donors about the impact of our institution and the opportunity for our students in a way that ties our current needs back to that donor’s experience.
I advance the mission of the university by . . .
Working with donors to provide funding for institutional priorities.
When I grew up I wanted to be . . .
An attorney. I’m still trying to understand why I used to read John Grisham as a fifth grader.
If I was gifted with a secret power it would be . . .
Teleportation. I cover a big territory and have frequent road trips.
I start my day by…
Coffee, followed by more coffee, followed by thinking about working out, followed by not working out, followed by lots of cold calling.
My bucket list includes …
Cycling the 469 mile Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking in the Swiss Alps, seeing the Northern Lights from a glass cabin in Iceland.
My theme song is . . .
I’m kind of a hipster, you’ve probably never heard of my theme song.
I learned the meaning of giving from . . .
When I worked in financial sales, I had a 93-year old client who I worked with to change all of his investment beneficiaries to Ohio State University. He had two children that he had already set up with what they needed so he wanted all of his remaining assets to go to his alma mater. In total, we designated approximately $4 million to be put to the highest and best use of the institution generally.
Few know that I . . .
Started a nonprofit in Maryville to convert a former golf course to a public park and greenway.
