Laura Suiter

Assistant Athletic Director for Development
Martin

A Union City native and UT Martin grad, Laura knows how to get down and dirty on a farm, having spent many summers driving a tractor and tending to cattle. An outdoors enthusiast, Laura can be found traveling, hiking or scuba diving when she is not working. She is married to JB, and they have one child, Cole, and two dogs—Hank (named after Hank Aaron) and Dallas (named after the Dallas Cowboys).

When I grew up I wanted to be . . .

a veterinarian.

If I was gifted with a secret power it would be . . .

time travel.

My job is . . .

challenging, but rewarding.

To understand what I do, you must understand . . .

philanthropy.

I advance the mission of the university by . . .

creating opportunities. It’s all about the students and giving them what they need to be successful. It’s important to not lose focus on why we do what we do.

My life mantra is . . .

“Even though you cannot control everything that happens, you can control your attitude toward what happens. And in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.”

My theme song is . . .

“Temporary Home.”

I learned the meaning of giving from . . .

my grandmother.

Few know that I . . .

have an agricultural background and spent many summers working on a family farm driving a tractor, scouting cotton, and tending to cattle.
