Profile – Brian Broyles

Chief Development Officer, Western Region & Senior Director of Advancement, UT Libraries
UT Knoxville Office of Advancement

My position includes…

Working in collaboration with all colleges and units to raise funds for the university in the Western United States. Additionally, I lead the advancement team for the UT Libraries.

To understand what I do, you must understand …

How transformational higher education is. I witness daily in my own life how having an education has benefited me and provided a better life for my family.

I advance the mission of the university by…

Partnering with generous people and helping them realize how they can positively impact our students and their experience(s) at UT. Seeing the joy that comes from so many donors as they give back is the most rewarding part of my career.

When I grew up I wanted to be…

Taller. Height is really the only thing I have ever wanted that I do not have.

If I was gifted with a secret power it would be…

To ensure my children live happy, productive lives. If I had the power to do anything it would most definitely be to guarantee my kids are open and accepting of everyone, and that they find whatever it is in life that makes them happy and do it until they leave this world.

I start my day by…

Running. I can’t imagine starting with anything else.

My bucket list includes…

Seeing my three children walk across the stage as they receive their undergraduate degree(s). They’ve all grown up around higher education and those moments will be where life comes full circle for me.

My theme song is…

I don’t know if I necessarily have a “theme song,” but Counting Crows is my favorite band, followed closely by Jason Isbell.

I learned the meaning of giving from…

My dad. He’s the man.

Few know that I…

Drink Pedialyte every day. It’s what fuels my daily runs.
